CIN’s notice on the 2021 candidate recommendation for academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering

In accordance with relevant requirements of the “Notice of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) on the 2021 candidates recommendation for academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering” (KXBFZ No.2[2021], see Annex 1 for details), CIN will begin its recommendation and relevant matters are notified as follows:

1. Requirement of recommendation

Units and number of recommendation, criteria and conditions for candidates for academicians and recommendation procedure and requirements are detailed in the “Notice of the General Office of CAST on the 2021 candidate recommendation for academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering”. Please read the notice and recommend candidates as required. CIN will set up a expert recommendation committee, a material review group, a working group for the recommendation to work for the recommendation work and submit the material to CAST.

2. Contents and requirements of submitted materials

1. Material for the recommendation work

A list of candidates for academician (see Annexe 2 for format) is submitted in paper and electronic version.

2. Candidates’ materials

Recommendation units should provide candidates’ materials in paper and electronic version as required by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. All materials submitted are requried to have confidential contents removed if they involve state secrets. If the submitted materials violate the confidentiality provisions, the candidate shall be disqualified from being recommended (nominated).

1. Candidates’ materials for academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

1. Five paper copies, including three original copies, of “letter of recommendation for academician candidates of Chinese Academy of Sciences (for academy groups)” (hereinafter referred to as “letter of recommendation”).
2. Five paper copies, including three original copies, of Appendix 1 ofAppendicesof theCandidatesRecommended for the Additional SelectionofAcademicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(hereinafter referred to as the “Appendics”).
3. One set of paper copies of Appendices 2 to 6 of “Appendices”.
4. Two paper copies of the “confirmation letter on the authenticity of theAppendices”.
5. Two paper copies of the “certificate of confidentiality examination on theAppendics” (issued by the unit of the candidate).
6. One USB flash disk is used to store the electronic documents of the “letter of recommendation” and the “Appendix 1 of theAppendices” in MS-word format , and “Appendices 1 to 6 of theAppendices”, the “confirmation letter on the authenticity of theAppendices” and the “certificate on confidentiality examination of theAppendices” in PDF format (the file size shall not be greater than 100 M).

7. One paper copy of peer expert review form (see Appendix 3 for format).

2. Candidates’ materials for academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

1. Eight paper copies of the “Letter of Nomination for Academician Candidates of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (for nomination by CAST) (hereinafter referred to as the “Nomination Letter”), including 6 original copies. The candidate shall sign the original, and the unit shall be responsible for the review and stamping the official seal of the unit.
2. One set of paper copies of the Appendices of the “Nomination Letter”, including copies of science and technology award certificates (no more than 5), copies of invention patent certificates and the supporting materials for their implementation (no more than 5), the original or copies of papers and works (no more than 10), and the original or copies of important achievements in engineering design, construction, operation and management (no more than 5).
3. One CD-ROM and one USB flash disk with the data file in mdb format generated by the academician candidate nomination system of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the “Nomination Letter” in word format and the electronic version of the Appendices (PDF format).

The nomination system and operation manual of academician candidates of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the documents related to the additional selection of academician candidates of the Chinese Academy of Engineering are available for download and inquiry on the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (www.cae.cn).

4. Two paper copies of the confidentiality examination certificate of the “Nomination Letter” and the Appendices (issued by the unit of the candidate with the seal).
5. Two paper copies of “‘eight prohibitions’ by the Chinese Academy of Engineering on strictly enforcing the discipline of academician recommendation” signed by the candidate.
6. One paper copy of peer expert review form (see Appendix 3 for format).

3. Requirements of material submission

1. Materials shall be submitted completely, and all paper copies must be completely consistent with the corresponding electronic versions.
2. Materials should be submitted to the Science and Technology Service Department of CIN before January 25. If the materials do not meet the requirements or are submitted after the deadline, the recommendation will be invalid.
