China Officially Approved to Join the Maritime Labor Convention

On 29 August, with review and approval by the 16^thsession of the 12^thNPC standing committee, China officially joined “The Maritime Labor Convention 2006”. The Convention will become effective in China one year after the date of the Convention Approval being delivered to the International Labor Bureau for registration. The Convention made detailed provisions on the crew’s minimum employee requirements, employment conditions, criterions for on-board living facilities, occupational health and safety assurance, etc., which helps to specify the crew’s rights and the member nation’s obligations.
