On October 17th, during the World Conference on Maritime Science and Technology 2023, CIN held an awarding ceremony for the “Intelligent Shipping Technology Innovation Community” (referred to as the Innovation Community).
The Innovation Community was established by the Qingdao Institute of Shipping Development in cooperation with COSCO Shipping Group, Shandong Maritime Safety Administration, China Waterborne Transport Research Institute, Shandong Port Group Co., Ltd., Qingdao Pilot Station, and other relevant units, based on Qingdao Intelligent Shipping Industrial Park. It aims to accelerate the R&D and practice of intelligent shipping technology, explore new mechanisms and models for gathering intelligent shipping innovation elements, promote exchanges and cooperation, and new talents, and drive technological advancements in the shipping industry and create a favorable environment for the development of intelligent shipping.

He Jianzhong emphasized three key points for the construction of innovation community, first, we should highlight the characteristics of innovation, with intelligent navigation technology as the core, and make efforts to technology R&D to form new innovative achievements, second, we should strengthen collaborative cooperation by establishing a comprehensive maritime science and technology innovation platform that integrates industry, academia, research, and application. This platform will pool innovative talents, national key laboratories, innovative scientific and technological enterprises and other resources. The enterprises will play the principal role in innovation to attract more partners; third, we should promote result commercialization. We need to actively promote market application of research outcomes into industrial development.

Li Yabin, President of Qingdao Institute of Shipping Development, introduced that the main activities of the innovation community include the following：collecting and analyzing industry information, accurate understanding maritime innovation development trends and hotspots,, and promoting information sharing among member units; hosting online or offline academic and business conferences，organizing joint business study tours and mutual visits among member units, and promoting business exchanges and mutual improvement among member units; organizing and carrying out research on promoting intelligent shipping technologies, modes, mechanisms and common technologies and sharing research results to promote coordinated development; exploring to promote the industrial application of intelligent shipping achievements and incubate intelligent shipping innovative enterprises; organizing member units with advantages to jointly apply for and implement intelligent shipping R&D and engineering projects at home and abroad; creating a good environment for talent growth，exploring the mechanisms and modes for the gathering, mobility, and R &D cooperation of intelligent shipping talents across regions, and providing opportunities and guarantees for them to carry out technological innovations.The community has an open membership system, and anyone who is willing to join in cooperation can apply for membership.
