On November 15, 2022, shipping technology industry players from four places on both sides of the Taiwan Strait gathered online to convene the first “Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macau Shipping Industry Technology Collaborative Development Forum”.
With the support of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST), this forum is co-organized by the Chinese Institute of Navigation (CIN), the Chinese Association for Ocean Affairs (CAOA) of Taiwan, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). With the theme of “Collaborative Development of Maritime Science and Technology Innovation”, the forum discussed the hot issues of maritime science and technology development under the new situation, promoted regional technical exchanges and cooperation, and promoted the coordinated development of maritime science and technology.
The forum was held in CIN, JiMei University, China Ocean Industry Association in Taiwan, Wuhan University of Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Macao University of Science and Technology.
The forum was hosted by Cao Di, chairman of the Board of Supervisors of the CIN, and Yang Shenhua, dean of the School of Navigation of JiMei University. Zheng Heping, vice president of the CIN, delivered a speech, and put forward four proposals for the coordinated development of maritime science and technology in the four regions across the Taiwan Strait: work together to cope with the new situation of shipping; led by science and technology, give new impetus to the development of shipping; inherit and carry forward, and open up a new realm of Chinese navigation culture; build a new platform for shipping exchanges through mutual trust and cooperation. Zhang Wenzhe, president of China Ocean Industry Association in Taiwan, and Li Qingbiao, president of JiMei University, delivered speeches respectively, hoping to realize the integration of scientific and technological innovation and achievements application among the four regions through the forum platform, and deepen the cooperation and mutual benefit between science and technology and industry. Academician Yan Xinping of Wuhan University of Technology and other industry famous experts from COSCO Shipping Group, China Merchants Group, Evergreen Marine Corporation, China Ocean Industry Association in Taiwan, Hong Kong University of Technology and Macao University of Science and Technology all delivered their keynote speeches on hot issues of shipping technology.
This forum aims to build a regular dialogue, exchange and cooperation platform for enterprises, scientific research institutions, higher education institutions and other related parties in the shipping industry in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and strive to form a high-quality forum widely recognized by the industry through three years, and play the role of “connecting bridge” and “booster” to serve the high-quality development of the shipping industry.
