On April 28, the seminar on “Bering Strait Geographic Characteristics and Location Advantage Utilization Strategy” was held online by China Institute of Navigation (CIN) and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS). Cai Meijiang, executive deputy director of Polar Navigation and Equipment Committee of CIN, presided over the meeting, and Yan Xiaobo, secretary general of CIN, delivered a statement on behalf of the organizers. More than 20 representatives from relevant departments of the Ministry of Transport, universities, research institutes, companies and enterprises attended the meeting.
The main purpose of this seminar was to explore the status and utilization strategy of the Bering Strait in the development and utilization of the Arctic shipping routes. The experts at the meeting exchanged views on the key factors such as politics, economy, diplomacy and law in the development and utilization of the Arctic shipping routes.
This meeting provided a good opportunity for technical exchange for enterprises, institutions and colleges in the field of port and shipping. The representatives generally agreed that the status and utilization strategy of the Bering Strait in the development and utilization of the Arctic shipping routes should be further discussed continuously, and the relevant units should put forward countermeasures and suggestions based on their own advantages, so as to play their due role in the breakthrough of the key problems in the field of navigation.
