The First Session of the 8th Editorial Board of Marine Technology Was Held in Dalian

On October 19th, 2016, the First Session of the Eighth Editorial Board ofMarine Technologywas held in the Student Activity Center in Dalian Maritime University. The Conference was supported by China Institute of Navigation and Dalian Maritime University. Wang Qun, Secretary General of CIN and Deputy Director of the Editorial Board, Hou Liping, Deputy General Manager of China Ocean Shipping Container Co., Ltd and Deputy Director as well as Chief Editor of the Editorial Board and Lu Yueming, Secretary General of China Maritime Pilot Association, attended this meeting. The meeting was chaired by Wang Qun.

Yuan Linxin, President of Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) Magazines Press and Deputy Director as well as Executive Editor of the Editorial Board, announced the Notice on the List of the Members of the Eighth Editorial Board ofMarine Technology. Wang Qun issued letter of appointment to the editors. Yuan Linxin reported the compilation and publication ofMarine Technologyfrom 2015 to 2016, including the basic situation of SMU Magazines Press, which undertakes the specific editing and publishing work, the current development status of the Periodicals and recent honors. Meanwhile, Yuan Linxin also explained to the Editorial Board the current difficulties. The Editorial Board attending the meeting highly recognized the editing and proofreading of the periodical and publication status and expressed strong attachment to the periodical. They believed that the periodical has become a practical magazine, mainly for the front-line seafarers, and the articles published in this paper are useful for the seamen and others in the industry. They hope that the periodical will get better.

During the meeting, members of the Editorial Board deliberated on the issues concerning the compilation and publication of the periodical and offered suggestions. Especially, they had a lively discussion around improving the number of manuscripts, periodicals subscription and the advertising volume of the periodical. Editor Hou Liping hoped that the editorial department could adhere to its faith, take the initiative to visit various shipping companies and do a good job in periodical advertising and promoting subscription. Editor Zhao Qingai from COSCO Group said she would encourage the front-line staff to contribute more articles and recommend articles published in the internal magazines to the editorial department. Editor Guan Qinghui suggested that the editorial department should provide more guidance and stimulate seafarers to contribute more articles and subcribe more periodicals. Editor Jiang Fan hoped that CIN could ramp up its efforts to increase contributions from the angle of assessing professional titles. Editor Chen Dexing hoped that more articles relating ship electric propulsion and dynamic positioning could be published in the periodical. Xie Ningjia proposed to increase the number of articles regarding interpretation of Conventions, maritime development and seafarers development. Other editors also made suggestions on duplication checking, internship on board and other matters.

Deputy Director Wang Qun made a concluding statement. He said China Association for Science and Technology attached great importance to publications of each association and spared a large space for publicity. The Ministry of Transport also hoped to increase publicity and support in the waterway transport, and promote China's water transport construction. As an organizer, the Institute will also give strong support in funding the editorial department in terms of visiting customers, shipping companies, and organizing writing training courses for seafarers. In response to the general fact that the circulation of the periodicals has declined, Deputy Director Wang Qun suggested the editorial department should cooperate with the Institute and take the initiative to enhance the publicity in a variety of ways. The Institute will also actively promote and publicize in aspects of developing members, adding publicity staff and combining with the activities of the Institute. The editorial department should also use their own multi-channel platforms to increase the influence of the periodical, constantly increasing the circulation, the contributions and sources of advertising on the basis of guaranteeing the quality of the periodical.
