On October 23, 2016, the Technical Application Study Results Appraisal Meeting of “the Key Technology of Precise Height Determination and Control in Cross-sea Project over a Wide Sea Area” applied in Island-tunnel Engineering for Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was held by China Institute of Navigation(CIN) in Wuhan. The appraisal committee was chaired by Ning Jinsheng, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Liu Gongchen, former chief safety supervisor of Ministry of Transport, served as deputy director. 6 specialists, including academicians such as Liu Jingnan, Wang Jiayao and Guo Renzhong, served as committee members. Yu Shicheng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of CIN, Sun Dunping, Director of Ministry of Science and Technology, Lin Ming, Chief Engineer of China Construction Project and General Manager of Island-tunnel Project of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, as well as representatives of project undertaking units participated in the meeting.
In this meeting, the appraisal committee listened to the project report, watched the engineering and measurement video, and reviewed the relevant technical documents. After some inquiries about the applied technical methods and innovation of the project, the appraisal committee reached a consensus. First, the submitted technical documents were complete and informative, satisfying the requirements for the scientific and technological achievements. Second, the result of this project has played a key role in maintaining control of the deep-water precise docking of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Third, the project is going to bring remarkable benefits to economy, society and environment and thus worths extensive promotion and application. Therefore, the committee agreed that this project had achieved an international advanced level and voted pass.
The project solved the problem of the ± 20mm height determination control precision in the cross-sea projects 50 meters below the surface in wide sea areas by establishing a high precision quasi geoid model in the engineering area and using high-precision height determination technologies deep down in open sea featuring GNSS (BDS) + sonar, a standardized calibration technology and methodology of high-precision height determination technologies deployed deep down in open sea and the GNSS data processing software.
